I love it when mentors push me to think better.
Recently, I had a mentor ask me a simple question that made me instantly re-evaluate all of my goals. And made me understand why many of my past goals didn’t come to fruition.
Before he asked the question though, he got us to write down our income goals, business goals and our life goals.
It didn’t take me long to write mine out because I’m pretty focussed on what I want to do.
My mentor (let’s call him Jason) then asked people to share their goals with the group.
One young lad got up and declared to us all that he wanted to make 6 figures a month. Not a bad goal for a 20-year-old guy. (He’s already making around $30K a month right now.)
Jason then just smiled and said, “Are you willing to pay the price for that to happen?”
The young guy just looked at him and nervously said “yes!”
Jason then pushed back and said, “I don’t believe you!”
The young guy shifted in his seat, adjusted his answer, and said, “Probably not.”
Jason smiled and thanked the young guy for his honesty.
He then went on to share how he knew the young guy was lying not only to him… but to himself.
It came down to the simple fact that, if he was willing to pay the price for those results or for the goal to be achieved… he would have achieved them.
That insight hit me on the head like a brick! And then it made me think about all of my goals.
I instantly wondered if I was actually willing to pay the price it cost for them to happen… and as I looked at the piece of paper I’d written my goals on… for a few of the goals I had, it was a resounding “NO!”
I immediately reduced my income goal to a level where I’m happy to pay the price to achieve it.
But it didn’t stop there. My travel goals were changed as well. And a few of my lifestyle goals needed a quick readjustment.
And the reason was…
Knowledge Nugget #233:
Everything Has A Price
Before Jason had asked his simple, yet profound question… I was aiming for the stars and happy to hit the moon.
But after he asked the question… I realized that the cost was too great for some of those goals to happen. And, to be clear, they will happen… just not yet.
When I think about those goals honestly, I am not ready, willing, or able to pay the price for them to happen… yet.
So, what is the “price” I’m talking about.
Most people naturally think that price means money… but a lot of the time, money would be the cheapest way to pay.
Price can be paid in other ways such as effort, opportunity, time… soul etc.
I think what has made me more discerning, realistic, and honest is my training with Parris.
I have so many people tell me that they want to be a “Parris Cub” … but when I tell them about what’s involved, they change their tune very quickly.
In other words, they aren’t willing to pay the price.
For me, sure the price is high… but it’s a price I’m willing to pay. And that’s the important part.
You have to be willing to pay the price.
Until Jason asked this simple question… I had never thought about goals that way. But I’m glad I did.
By knowing what I’m prepared to pay for and not pay for has helped me to prioritize things better.
Could knowing this change the goals you’re focusing on now?
At the very least, it could be worth a look. That way you’ll be able to see what’s important to you and why some goals may not have happened yet.
Until next week, stay awesome and have fun! : )

P.S. I actually believe that learning that one insight was worth the whole trip (and getting the flu). Now I don’t feel as much pressure to try to hustle and achieve goals that don’t quite fit me yet.
P.P.S. In the past I’ve been a “goalaphobe” because I’ve done too many personal development courses that made me make ridiculous goals that had no hope of happening. And now I also know that I wasn’t prepared to pay the price… well, that makes sense now.
P.P.P.S. I have some good news. Trevor “Toecracker” Crook has opened up the registration for the Persuasion event I’m speaking at in Poland in May.
And if you buy your ticket through my link, I’ll give you a mentoring call before the event to help strategize how to get the most out of it… and a mentoring call after it to help you tie everything together. If you decide to get a VIP ticket, you’ll get the calls and an extra gift from me.
Here’s the link to check out the event: http://bit.ly/gdansk2020
